A team with the Milestones Lab at the University of Missouri is interested in how children (6-to-12-years) understand emotions and use reasoning when thinking about fairy tales.

We are recruiting children and one parent to participate in research through a single, hour-long set of activities. Families would be able to participate either online using Zoom, or by visiting our lab in McReynolds Hall (305 S 5th St, Columbia, MO 65201). Children will complete a video-recorded task called the Fairy Tale Test. Parents will be asked to complete a set of computer surveys about children’s emotional and cognitive skills separately. All activities should be completed within one hour.

Families will be compensated with $30 Amazon.com gift cards for their time.

Research participants will need to be English-speaking.

If you are interested, please complete a screening and scheduling form here (https://bit.ly/FTTatMU) or using the QR code below.

Please contact the researcher, Dr. Jordan Booker (bookerja@missouri.edu) with any questions.

Our team is part of a multidisciplinary relationships science group–the Family and Relationships Research Network (FARR-Net)–that is always interested inlearning about area families who might be interested in contribtuing to research, and other teams in fields like Psychology, Human Development, Education, Nursing, Communications, and other great programs are glad to share information about possible research involvement that could be relevant to children, teens, and adults.

Missouri Families and Households Research Participant Database

Our scholars are engaged in work promoting the quality of life for Missouri families. By participating in our broader research, you are helping us learn more about close personal relationships and improving the lives of youth, families, and relationships over the lifespan. Additionally, most studies that we may reach out for you to participate in will involve compensation for your time and effort (e.g., cash, gift cards, raffles). We also directly use the information gleaned from these studies to provide information to schools, policy makers, organizations, and community members to improve the lives of Missourians, while always keeping your personal information confidential.
